Dr. Alan Mafara brings decades of veterinary experience to caring for companion animals, with an emphasis on helping pets stay healthy, active, and comfortable throughout their lives. His areas of focus include preventive medicine, orthopedic surgery, veterinary dentistry, and advanced pain management.

A native of Zimbabwe, Dr. Mafara received his veterinary degree from the University of Zimbabwe in 1993. He moved to Arizona in 2003, where he continued his career in veterinary medicine. Throughout his years in practice, he has continued to build his knowledge through advanced education and training in several specialized areas of animal care.

Dr. Mafara’s experience extends beyond traditional veterinary medicine. He has advanced training in physical rehabilitation therapy and uses techniques such as underwater treadmill therapy to help pets regain strength and mobility after surgery or injury. His training also includes veterinary acupuncture and pain management, allowing him to incorporate different approaches to relieving discomfort, encouraging recovery, and supporting animals living with chronic conditions.

An important part of Dr. Mafara’s approach is working closely with pet owners. He takes a thoughtful approach to care and strives to give owners the information they need to make confident decisions about their pets’ health, comfort, and long-term well-being.

Away from veterinary medicine, Dr. Mafara has a diverse range of interests. He is a licensed private pilot and holds a certification in gemstones. He is also developing his skills in communication and leadership and is currently expanding his expertise in public speaking.
